Elaine Alexander Brown Obituary – The Providence Journal

was born on January 30, 1926, to the late Francis Johnson Alexander and Hadven Alexander in Cambridge, MA.
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Calvin Coolidge College, a Master of Law degree from The Portia School of Law in 1948 and worked for several years as a junior buyer at Filene’s.
In 1960 Elaine married William Alfred Brown of Newark, New Jersey. The couple moved to Providence, Rhode Island in 1965 where Elaine became Head Librarian for Interlibrary loans at the Rockefeller Library at Brown University, retiring from Brown in 1991.
She was a member of the 464 Club fundraising for Black women who wanted to go to college, a leader of the Boston chapter of the Circle-lets and founding member of the Providence alumni chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Incorporated.
An accomplished artist and avid traveler, Elaine visited Japan, Italy, London, Canada, Hawaii, and the Caribbean.
In 2022, Elaine moved to Tockwotton on the Waterfront where she lived until her passing.
